Bolivia (Update)
On 7 August 2024, the Bolivia Ministry of Defense (MINDEF per its acronym in Spanish) provided an update on the wildfires in the country. According to MINDEF, a fire in Roboré is impacting two communities. In San Lorenzo Nuevo, the fire has affected the market, school, water tanks, and plantations, resulting in the evacuation of nine children and three adults; while in San Lorenzo Viejo, 32 families have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. Tropical Storm Debby
United States of America (Update)
On 8 August 2024, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reported tropical storm Debby is bringing heavy rains and flooding as it makes landfall on the South Carolina coast. In the state of Florida, evacuations are in effect for 6 counties, with 142 people in nine shelters, and four assisted living facilities and three nursing homes have been evacuated. In the state of Georgia, there are five shelters with 138 people. In South Carolina, there are ten shelters with 99 occupants. In North Carolina, there are 15 shelters with 58 occupants. There were 47 boil water advisories issued, affecting 10,397 people in Florida and 5,300 in Georgia. Health, medical, and water sectors continue to be affected by ongoing power outages. In addition, media is reporting seven deaths, five in Florida, one in Georgia, and one in North Carolina (one increase since the 6 August report).
