On 30 August 2023, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), published information regarding the Hurricane Idalia affecting the states of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, United States. A state of emergency was declared for these four states. In the state of Florida, 94 shelters were opened with 4,907 occupants, 72 medical facilities were fully evacuated, 10 ports and waterways were closed, and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) were fully activated; the Florida government has activated the Florida Disaster Fund to support communities impacted by Hurricane Idalia. In addition, the government of Florida reported 50 County School Districts, 20 Florida State College Systems, and 9 State University Systems have issued closures. In the state of Georgia, 1 shelter was opened with 4 occupants and 2 ports were closed. The hurricane is expected to travel northeast along the coasts of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina on Wednesday. The reports are available from: FEMA and Government of Florida

Guatemala (Update)

On 30 August 2023, the Guatemala National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED per its acronym in Spanish) published an update on the rainy season in the country. There have been 663 severe rain weather incidents reported (23 increase since the 28 August report). At least 1,942,220 people were affected (112,317 increase), 21,553 people were attended to (530 increase), 24 deaths were reported, 5,963 people were evacuated (121 increase), 3,508 homes were moderately affected (56 increase), and 126 homes were severely damaged (10 increase).
