Brazil (Update)

On 30 May 2024, the Government of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, published updated information on the heavy rains affecting 469 municipalities of the state (four additional since the 28 May morning report).

Wild fires

United States of America (Update)

On 29 May 2024, the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) reported that two wildfires have been burning across southern New Mexico since 17 May, causing significant displacement and damage. The active fires are located in the White Mountain Wilderness of Lincoln National Forest and in the village of Ruidoso in Lincoln County, with a total burnt area of 6,187 hectares according to the JRC Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS). According to the report the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reported that, as of 29 May, three people have been injured, at least 750 people have been displaced, and approximately 4,800 people are prepared to be evacuated. Additionally, more than 3,630 houses are at risk. The JRC GWIS has forecasted a fire danger level ranging from very high to extreme in the affected areas over the next 24 hours.
