Brazil (Update)

On 29 January 2024, the Civil Protection of the state of Bahia (SUDEC per its acronym in Portuguese), provided update regarding the heavy rains that affected the state. According to the information, the SUDEC are supporting the municipalities of: Mutuípe, Medeiros Neto, Ilhéus, Muquém do São Francisco, Wanderley, and Cotegipe. A total of 7,197 people were displaced, and 4 deaths were reported. Recently, 14 municipalities declared emergency: Dário Meira, Cotegipe, Ilhéus, Medeiros Neto, Ibicuí, Anagé, Muquém de São Francisco, Iguaí, Quijingue, Wanderley, Jaguaquara, Ubaíra, Saubara, and Milagres.  The municipalities of Medeiros Neto, Wanderley, and Muquém do São Francisco were the most affected, with losses of supplies and medicines. Hydro-meteorological events 

Colombia

On 29 January 2024, the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management of Colombia (UNGRD per its acronym in Spanish) provided information regarding the El Niño phenomenon effects in the country. According to the information, there have been 478 wildfires that have burned 28,968 hectares of vegetation, as well as 134 cases of water shortages, 60 floods and 57 cases of mass movements. These events have left more than 100,000 people affected and at risk. The report is available from: UNGRD
