On 2 January 2024, the National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI per its acronym in Spanish) provided information on the heavy rains in the department of Loreto. According to the information, Pintuyacu, Cachiyacu, Paranapura, Yanayacu, and Chambira flooded due to the heavy rains and affected the districts of Yurimaguas, Balsapuerto, Alto Nanay, and Pampa Hermosa. The district of Alto Nanay, Balsapuerto, Yurimaguas, and Pampa Hermosa declared State of Emergency. A total of 4,990 people and 69 homes were affected. Additionally, 1,297 homes were destroyed.
