Guatemala (Update)

On 29 July 2024, the Guatemala National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED per its acronym in Spanish) published updated information on the heavy rainfall affecting the country. As of 29 July, 8,040 people were directly impacted (197 increase since the 22 July report), 22,228 people were evacuated (1,156 increase), and 731 people remain in shelters. Additionally, 369 homes were severely damaged (3 increase) and 6,935 homes were moderately damaged (190 increase). The report is available from: CONRED

 

Wildfires

United States of America

On 29 July 2024, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) published information on the wildfires in the Western Region of the United States of America. As of 29 July, there were 89 active fires burning approximately 1.8 million acres. Damages and evacuations have been reported throughout the states of California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. In the state of California, there were 26,578 mandatory evacuations and 62 homes destroyed between Butte and Tehama counties, and in Kern County, 2,365 mandatory evacuations were reported, with 25 homes destroyed and three people injured. In the state of Oregon, the counties of Grant, Morrow, Umatilla, Gilliam, Harney, Baker, and Malheur all reported damages. In Grant, Morrow, and Umatilla counties, 880 mandatory evacuations were reported, as well as six destroyed homes, two damaged homes, and six people injured. In Baker and Malheur counties, 830 mandatory evacuations were reported, with four destroyed homes and three people injured. In the state of Washington, Ferry County reported 725 mandatory evacuations, two destroyed homes, and three injured people. In the state of Idaho, the counties of Nez Perce, Latah, and the Nez Perce Reservation reported 1,340 mandatory evacuations and 24 destroyed homes. The report is available from: FEMA
