Guatemala (Update) 

On 29 April, the Guatemala National Coordination System for Disaster Reduction (CONRED per its acronym in Spanish), reported that during the 2022 Rainy Season, 11 events in the departments of Suchitepéquez, Huehuetenango, Guatemala, and Quiche have affected 8,770 people. To date, there have been 37 houses with light damage and 35 houses with moderate damage reported, and 6 roads have been affected. The report is available at: CONRED

United States of America (Update) 

On 29 April, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reported the Cook’s Peak Fire in Colfax, New Mexico. The fire began on 17 April and has burned 55,931 houses, is 54% contained, and is threatening 74 houses and destroying 3 structures. In addition, 231 residents are under mandatory evacuation orders and 4 people have been injured. There is currently 1 shelter open with 4 occupants. The report is available at: FEMA.

Venezuela (Update)  

On 28 April, according to a media report, due to ongoing flooding in the state of Zulia affecting several municipalities across the region, it has been reported that at least 850 families part of the Wayuu Indigenous community in the municipalities of Sucre, Catatumbo, and Francisco Javier Pulgar have been affected by the rains. The affected Wayuu families have lost their houses, household goods, food, and crops. In addition, several communities have become inaccessible due to road obstructions; road work and machinery to remove the obstructions are being mobilized so that access to affected families can be restored and humanitarian aid can be provided. In total, the flooding in the municipalities of Francisco Javier Pulgar, Colón, Sucre, and Catatumbo has affected at least 32,263 families. The most affected municipality has been Sucre with 30,000 affected families and 2,500 flooded hectares. The report is available at: El Pitazo.
