Severe weather 

Bolivia

On 27 March 2023, the Bolivia Ministry of Health (MoH) provided information concerning the overflow of the Rio Acre in the department of Pando, Bolivia. There were 300 families affected in the municipality of Cobija and the Ministry of Health has provided services to over 800 people affected by the overflow. Brazil

On 26 March 2023, the Government of Acre, Brazil, published information on the heavy rains happening since 24 March 2023 and affecting several municipalities of the state. In the municipality of Rio Branco, 48 neighborhoods were affected, and seven creeks remain in an overflowing state; there were 1,823 flood related emergencies attended to. In the municipality of Brasileia, there were 7,427 people affected and 5 shelters were opened, housing 348 people. In addition, the Acre Fire Department reported 493 people displaced in the municipality of Assis Brasil and 120 people displaced in the municipality of Xapuri. In the state of Amazonas the municipality of Manaus was affected by heavy rains on 25 March 2023. Ecuador 

On 27 March 2023, the Ecuador Risk Management Department of Communication published information on a 26 March landslide in Cantón Alausí, following heavy rains occurring in the country. There were 522 people affected, 16 people are reported as injured, 7 people are missing, and there were 16 deaths. At least 163 homes and 60% of the drinking water service has been affected. Peru (Update)

On 27 March 2023, the Peru Civil Protection (INDECI per its acronym in Spanish), published updated information on the heavy rains in the departments of Áncash, Huancavelica, Lambayeque, Piura and Tumbes. In the department of Áncash, there were 6,639 people (2,248 increase since the 23 March report) and 2,292 homes (1,024 increase) affected; 136 homes and 2 health care facilities were destroyed. In the department of Huancavelica, there were 3,850 people (1,824 increase since the 24 March report) and 776 homes (126 increase) affected. In the department of Lambayeque, there were 15,873 people (12,181 increase since the 23 March report) and 5,228 houses (3,860 increase) affected; 1,714 houses were destroyed (1,378 increase). In the department of Piura, there were 32,297 people affected (11,772 increase since the 23 March report) and 12 deaths reported; 11,426 homes were affected (3,912 increase) and 1,079 houses destroyed (423 increase); and 35 health care facilities (14 increase) were affected and 7 destroyed (3 increase). United States of America

On 26 March 2023, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), published information on severe thunderstorms in the Lower Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys of the United States affecting at least 2,000 homes. In the state of Mississippi, 25 deaths and 55 injuries were reported; 3 shelters were opened with 65 occupants. In addition, Sharkey County Issaquena Nursing Home in Rolling Fork is without power; all patients were transferred to other healthcare facilities. Power outages affecting 17,500 people were reported in the states of Alabama (10,500 people), Mississippi (5,200 people), and Tennessee (1,800 people). The report is available at: FEMA
