Brazil (update)

On 27 February 2023, the Civil Protection of São Paulo State, Brazil, published an update on the heavy rains in the state. There were 3,245 people displaced (decrease of 820 since the 24 February report) and 65 associated deaths reported (11 increase). The Hospital Regional do Litoral Norte has treated 22 people affected by the rains, 9 of which remain hospitalized in stable condition. The report is available at: Defesa Civil de São Paulo

Ecuador

On 24 February 2023, the Ecuador Risk Management Department reported 5 Emergency Operation Centers (EOC) were activated in the country due to the emergencies reported from 1 to 23 January 2023. Between 1 January to 23 February, there were 340 events reported in 104 cantons of the country, including: 139 floods, 125 landslides, 42 structural collapses, 16 windstorms, 17 hailstorms, and 1 lightning storm. At least, 1,628 people and 450 homes, 8 schools, and 1 health facility have been affected. The most affected provinces are Manabí, Pichincha, Imbabura, Los Ríos, Guayas, Loja, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Zamora Chinchipe, Napo, and El Oro. The report is available at: Secretaría de Gestión de Riesgos

 

Peru

On 25 February 2023, the Civil Protection of Peru (INDECI per its acronym in Spanish), provided information on the heavy rains that occurred in Zarumilla province, Department of Tumbes, reporting 303 people and 101 homes were affected. The reports is available at: INDECI
