On 24 January 2024, the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management of Colombia (UNGRD per its acronym in Spanish) informed that there are 25 wildfires in the departments of Cundinamarca (n=12), Boyacá (n=4), Antioquia, Norte de Santander, Bogota (n=2 each), Cesar, La Guajira, and Santander (n=1 each). According to the information, nine of these fires have been controlled, however, 174 municipalities in the country are being affected by these fires. The Government of the Cundinamarca Department declared public calamity due to the wildfires in the context of the El Niño Phenomenon.
