Brazil (Update)  

On 23 February, the Brazil National Civil Defense (DCN as per its acronym in Portuguese) updated reports indicating that due to heavy rains 1,324 landslides have occurred causing the deaths of 186 people in the state of Rio de Janeiro. There are 13 shelters that remain open with 811 occupants that were displaced due to the landslides and persistent rains. According to the Assessment Capacities Project (ACAPS), 200 people were injured and 100 people remain missing. In the municipalities of Miracema and Laje do Muriae at least 15,000 people were affected and 1,900 people were displaced. Additional rain is forecasted to fall in Rio de Janeiro over the next several days. DCN and ACAPS.  

 

Guatemala (Update)  

On 22 February, the Guatemala National Coordination System for Disaster Reduction reported that since the beginning of the cold weather season 5,568 people have been temporarily housed in one of 10 shelters distributed in the departments of Quetzaltenango, Soloá, Totonicapán, Quiché, Guatemala, and Alta Verapaz. In addition, between 21-22 February 74 people were housed in Totonicapán, Quetzaltenango, Quiché, Guatemala, and Alta Verapaz. The report is available at CONRED.
