On 21 July 2023, the Maricopa County Department of Public Health in Arizona state, United States, published a weekly heat report concerning the current heat wave. The report indicates in 2023, 18 confirmed heat-associated deaths have been reported, and 69 deaths are under investigation. Additionally, media is reporting the dangerously hot temperatures are also taxing hospitals as people suffering from heat-related illnesses are seeking treatment. Guatemala (Update)
On 21 July 2023, the Guatemala National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED per its acronym in Spanish) published an update on the rainy season in the country. There have been 343 severe rain weather incidents reported (28 increase since the 14 July report). There were at least 852,776 people affected (12,585 increase), 7,405 people were attended to (1,708 increase), 8,670 people are categorized as at risk (184 increase), 3,078 people were evacuated (613 increase), and 16 deaths were reported (1 increase). In addition, 1,142 houses were moderately damaged (291 increase) and 59 severely damaged (2 increase). The report is available from: CONRED
