Brazil (update)

On 22 February 2023, the Civil Protection of São Paulo State, Brazil, provided an update on the heavy rains that occurred over the weekend affecting the north coast of the state. There are 48 associated deaths reported (2 increase since the prior report) and 3,540 people have been displaced (1,044 increase) throughout the state. The water supply systems of the North Coast and Baixada Santista were reestablished. The report is available at: Defesa Civil de São Paulo

Ecuador

On 22 February 2023, according to the Risk Management Department of Ecuador, during the Carnival holiday, a total of 92 harzard events were reported in the national territory caused by the rains, the main ones being landslides and floods. The most affected provinces are Los Ríos, Loja, Manabí, El Oro, and Guaias. Of the total number of events reported, 35 were related to floods, 28 to landslides, and 1 to hailstorms.
