Guatemala (Update)

On 18 August 2023, the Guatemala National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED per its acronym in Spanish) published an update on the rainy season in the country. There have been 618 severe rain weather incidents reported (20 increase since the 14 August report). At least 1,779,598 people were affected (217,591 increase), 20,336 people were attended to (907 increase), 5,477 people were evacuated (903 increase), 8,998 people are considered at risk (90 increase). There were 3,380 homes moderately affected (183 increase) and 116 homes were severely affected. The report is available from: CONRED

Earthquake

Colombia

On 18 August 2023, the Colombia National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD per its acronym in Spanish) published information regarding the earthquake (6.1 magnitude) that occurred on 17 August 2023. According to the information, the departments of Meta, Boyacá, and Cundinamarca were most affected. In the department of Meta, there were 161 homes, and 9 education centers affected, 6 homes were destroyed, and 3 hospitals were evacuated. The Calvario municipality, Meta, was completely evacuated. In the department of Cundinamarca, there were 12 homes destroyed and 90 were affected. In Bogotá municipality, Cundinamarca, 92 mental health consultations were provided and 261 people who reported loss of consciousness were treated and evaluated. The Guayabetal municipality, Cundinamarca, reported a health care center affected. In the department of Boyaca one educational facility was affected.
