Brazil (Update)

On 20 May 2024, the Civil Protection of Santa Catarina State, Brazil, published information on the effects of the heavy rains occurring in Santa Catarina affecting 24 municipalities of the state. A total of 771 people were affected. The municipalities of Passo de Torres, Sombrio, São João do Sul, Balneário Gaivota, Jacinto Machado, Maracajá, Araranguá, and Rio do Sul have declared a state of emergency. Colombia (Update)

On 18 May 2024, the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management of Colombia (UNGRD per its acronym in Spanish) published updated information on the heavy rains affecting the country. Due to the overflow of the Cauca River, 18 municipalities were affected. A total of 7,806 people were affected, and 1,011 houses were destroyed and damaged. Additionally, the municipality of San Jacinto del Cauca, in the department of Bolívar, and the municipalities of Guaranda, Sucre and Majagual, in the department of Sucre, are under declarations of public calamity. UNGRD

 

United States of America (Update)

On 20 May 2024, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) published information on the severe weather affecting Texas and Louisiana. According to the information, in the state of Texas, six shelters were opened (one increase since the 17 May report) housing 204 people (79 increase), and seven deaths were recorded in Texas, of which, three deaths are unconfirmed.
