Brazil (Update)
On 1 October 2024, the Civil Protection of the state of Amazonas, Brazil, reported 9,316 people have been by the drought in Amazonas and the Civil Protection is providing the affected rural communities with assistance. Assistance being provided includes drinking water and food, as the communities are currently facing significant challenges in accessing these essential resources. Media has reported that in 2024, as of 30 September, over 747,000 people have been affected throughout the state of Amazonas by the drought. Tropical Cyclone Helene
United States of America (Update)
On 2 October 2024, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provided an update on the impact of Post-Tropical Cyclone Helene in the United States. In North Carolina, 42 deaths were reported (nine increase since the 1 October report), 26 shelters were opened housing 1,064 people. In South Carolina, there were 29 deaths (one increase) reported and nine shelters were opened housing 171 people (29 increase). In Tennessee, six deaths were reported. In Virginia, two shelters were opened housing 18 people. As of 2 October, media is reporting that there are 180 deaths reported between six states: 91 in North Carolina (35 increase), 36 in South Carolina, 25 in Georgia, 17 in Florida (2 increase), nine in Tennessee, and two in Virginia.
