Severe weather

Guatemala (Update)

On 18 October, the Guatemala National Coordination for Disaster Reduction (CONRED per its acronym in Spanish) published an update on the ongoing severe weather/ rainfall in the country. CONRED reports there have been 2,318 related incidents nationally from the severe weather (20 increase since the 15 October report). As of 18 October, there were 15,405 people directly impacted (42 increase) and 29,737 people evacuated (151 increase). In addition, 15,363 homes were affected (42 increase), of which 15,405 presented moderate damage (1,341 increase), 14,103 with moderate damage, and 434 were severely damaged. On 17 October 2024, the CONRED reported that the heavy rains occurred in the department of Huehuetenango, causing an increase in the level of the rivers Nentón and Azul. Wildfires

Ecuador (Update)

On 16 October 2024, the Ecuador Risk Management Secretariat (SNGR per its acronym in Spanish) published updated information on wildfires across the country. Between January and 16 October 2024, there were 3,806 wildfires (249 increase since the 1 October report) among 22 provinces. There were 1,410 people affected (582 increase) and 243 people directly impacted (two increase). Additionally, 30 homes were affected, and 12 homes were destroyed. Media is reporting there were 60 alerts due to the wildfires from 16 to 17 October 2024 in Esmeraldas and Colinas del Sol. The reports are available from: SNGR and EcuAvisa
