Brazil (Update)

On 17 May 2024, the Government of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, published updated information on the heavy rains affecting 461 municipalities of the state (1 increase since the 16 May report). Additionally, the government of Brazil reported that the Força Nacional do SUS provided more than 2,200 health care services in the state; most of the attention provided was related to stabilizing blood pressure, managing diabetes, and treating minor trauma. In addition, assistance with childbirth was also provided.

United States of America

On 17 May 2024, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) published information on the severe weather affecting Texas and Louisiana. According to the information, power outages were reported in both states, affecting 1.1. million customers (807,000 people in Texas and 166,000 people in Louisiana). In the state of Texas, minor damages to homes were reported, 5 shelters were opened housing 125 people, and 4 deaths were reported in Houston. The report is available from: FEMA

Uruguay (Update)

On 16 May 2024, the Uruguay National Emergency System published information on heavy rains affecting the five departments of the country. According to the report, 3,588 were displaced throughout the country (236 increase since the 15 May report); they are geographically distributed across the departments of Paysandú (n=1,848), Salto (n=839), Durazno (n=640), Artigas (n=115), Tacuarembó (n=48), Soriano (n=39), Rocha (n=33), and Cerro Lago (n=26).
