Peru
On 16 March, the Peru National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI per its acronym in Spanish), reported a 5.5 magnitude earthquake with its epicenter in the district of Cabanaconde in the province of Caylloma in the department Arequipa. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 12 km and particularly affected the jurisdictions of Cabanaconde, Madrigal, Lari, and Macca. According to a Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (EDAN per its acronym in Spanish), 203 houses were affected, 35 of which have become uninhabitable, and 3 people are injured. In addition, an educational institution, health establishment, 2 religious temples, a public office, 150 meters of rural road, 450 meters of the highway were all affected. Drinking water in the districts of Madrigal, Cabanaconde, Lari, Maca, Ichupampa and Chivay, all in the province of Caylloma, and La Unión were affected. On 16 March the Peru Ministry of Defense reported that the Armed Forces, as well as rescue teams, had been mobilized to help evacuated those rescued from the landslide in the Province of Pataz in northern Peru. According to media reports, there were 4 confirmed deaths caused by the landslide, and 70 people were evacuated from their houses. Revised reports indicate 7 houses were completely buried by the landslide and 8 people remain missing.
