Brazil (Update)  

On 12 May, the Civil Defense of Santa Catarina in Brazil reported that due to ongoing heavy rainfall in Santa Catarina, 42 municipalities are under emergency alerts and 129 municipalities have been affected. In total, 52,593 people were affected, 9,852 people were displaced from their homes, and there were 3 deaths reported. There has been $465 million in Brazilian Reals allocated to repairing damaged infrastructure caused by the heavy rains. The reports are available at Santa Catarina Civil Defense and SC Portais.  

Wildfire  

United States of America (Update)  

On 15 May, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provided an update on the Hermit’s Peak Fire in San Miguel, New Mexico. The fire to date has burned 279,868 acres and is 27% contained. There are currently 25,939 residents under mandatory evacuation orders and long-term evacuations and closures of critical travel routes including I-25 are possible considering the forecasted fire behavior. Air quality alerts are in effect throughout parts of New Mexico. There are 22,070 houses being threatened, 13 houses and 18 structures have sustained damage, and 318 houses and 236 structures were destroyed. In total 37 people were injured.
