Hurricane Ernesto

On 15 August 2024, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported that Hurricane Ernesto is now a category 2 hurricane as it approaches Bermuda. Hurricane conditions are expected in Bermuda on Saturday, with tropical storm conditions likely starting Friday afternoon. A dangerous storm surge is anticipated, leading to significant coastal flooding and large, destructive waves. Rainfall from Ernesto is expected to total 6 to 12 inches, with isolated amounts reaching up to 15 inches. Additionally, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reports that as of 15 August 2024, after the passing of Hurricane Ernesto, Puerto Rico has 26 shelters open, accommodating 146 occupants, eight hospitals are operating on generator power while approximately 350,300 households (26% of the population) are without potable water. As of 16 August, there were 238,000 power outages (16% of the population), with fuel providers having a 30-day supply.
