Hurricane Beryl
The Caribbean (Update)
On 12 July 2024, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) published updated information on the hurricane Beryl in the Caribbean region. According to the information, the hurricane caused significant damage across several islands, including Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Jamaica. In Carriacou, Grenada, 270 buildings were destroyed and 218 were damaged, and 95% of the homes were affected. Five of six medical facilities were damaged. In Petit Martinique, Grenada, 97% of buildings were affected, with 384 buildings impacted (104 destroyed and 163 damaged) and 100% of homes damaged or destroyed. In Jamaica, about 30% of the total population were affected. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, experienced widespread infrastructural damage, with 90% of housing damaged or destroyed across Union Island, Canouan Island, and Mayrea. In the Union Islands, 99% of the homes were severely impacted by the hurricane (38% were damaged and 60% were destroyed). In Canouan, 100% of homes and buildings affected, of which, 34% were destroyed. In Mayreau, 94% of the buildings are affected and 58% are destroyed. The report is available from: OCHA

Guatemala (Update)
On 12 July 2024, the Guatemala National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED per its acronym in Spanish) published updated information on the rainy season in the country. There have been 1,266 severe rain incidents reported nationally (17 increase since the 11 July report). According to the report, 6,946 people were directly impacted (9 increase), 17,132 people were evacuated (13 increase), and there were 18 deaths (1 increase). In addition, 340 homes were severely damaged (2 increase) and 5,925 homes were moderately damaged (7 increase). The reports are available from: CONRED
