On 11 August 2024, the Venezuela National Directorate of Civil Protection and Disaster Management (PC per its acronym in Spanish) reported that heavy rains on 10 August 2024 had affected the states of Delta Amacuro, Sucre, and Zulia. Media reports indicate that in Zulia alone, about 200 families have been affected. Whie in Sucre, media is reporting extensive flooding exacerbated by the overflow of the Guatapanare River and several local creeks affecting multiple communities across the department; the most affected communities include the Salado River, Valle Verde, La Frontera, Barrio Ajuro, Nueva Güiria, Río Bautista, Yoco, Guarama, Soro, and Valdez. The reports are available from: PC Venezuela, Costa del Sol, and Diario Avance.

Tropical Storm Warning

The Caribbean

On 12 August 2024, the National Hurricane Center and Central Pacific Hurricane Center (NHC/NOAA), published a Tropical Storm Warning for several regions in the Caribbean, including St. Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat, Antigua, Barbuda, Anguilla, Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, St. Barthelemy, Sint Maarten, the British Virgin Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Vieques, and Culebra. This warning indicates that tropical storm conditions are expected within 36 hours. The disturbance, currently moving west at 26 mph, is forecast to impact the Leeward Islands late tonight or Tuesday, with further progression toward the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico by Tuesday evening. The system is anticipated to strengthen into a tropical depression or storm as it nears these areas, with a high chance of formation in the coming days. The report is available from: NOAA.
