On 9 September 2024, the Civil Defense of the state of São Paulo, Brazil, reported that most of the state's municipalities are in an emergency situation due to the risk of fires. Media is reporting that in the municipality of São Paulo, between August and September 2024, the wildfires caused 1,523 cases of acute respiratory distress syndrome and 76 deaths caused by. Ecuador
On 9 September 2024, the Ecuador Risk Management Secretariat (SNGR per its acronym in Spanish) published information on wildfires across the country. Between January and 9 September 2024, there were 2,621 wildfires among 21 provinces, affecting 134 cantons, with 7 of the wildfires remaining active. A total of 285 people were affected, with 92 families directly impacted, and 19 homes were damaged, with four homes destroyed. The reports are available from: SNGR
Peru
On 10 September 2024, the Peru National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI per its acronym in Spanish) reported that the district municipalities of San Cristóbal, Jumbilla, Copallín, and Corosha in the Amazonas department activated their Civil Defense platforms in response to wildfires. In Corosha, 200 hectares of natural vegetation were destroyed after a reactivated fire. Damage assessments are ongoing in other districts. In the department of Áncash, fires in Independencia and Huari have been controlled, but one in Chacas remains active. In Huánuco, a fire in the city of Acochacan destroyed 100 hectares of crops. In Cusco, a fire near the Wata archaeological site burned 140 hectares. Media is reporting that in district of Incahuasi, in the department of Lambayeque, there were 50 people affected from inhalation of the wildfire smoke and one death was reported.
