Brazil

On 9 April 2023, the Brazil government of the state of Maranhão reported more than 64 municipalities in the state have been affected by the heavy rains. On 9 April, the state Governor and the President of Brazil went on official visit to the municipalities of Bacabal, Trizidela do Vale, and Pedreiras which are affected by the flooding of the Mearim River. A media report has indicated more than 35 thousand families have been affected, of which, 7,575 were displaced, and 6 deaths were reported. Peru (Update)

On 10 April 2023, the Peru Civil Protection (INDECI per its acronym in Spanish), published updated information on the heavy rains affecting the departments of La Libertad, Lambayeque, and Piura. In the department of La Libertad, there were 9,024 people affected (an increase of 1,360 since the 4 April report) and 5 deaths reported (2 increase). There were 3,158 homes affected (an increase of 600) and 600 were destroyed (an increase of 69). In the department of Lambayeque, there were 48,736 people affected (7,266 increase since the 4 April report) and 5 deaths reported (3 increase). There were 14,040 homes affected (2,961 increase) and 5,671 homes destroyed (864 increase); ten of the affected institutions providing health services (IPRESS per its acronym in Spanish) are operational and 5 IPRESS are inoperable. In the department of Piura, there were 80,981 people affected (an increase of 13,012 since the 3 April report) and 15 deaths reported (1 increase). There were 26,610 homes affected (an increase of 3,938) and 2,242 homes destroyed (389 increase). Additionally, in Piura there were 110 healthcare facilities affected (44 increase) and 9 destroyed; with respect to the affected institutions providing health services (IPRESS per its acronym in Spanish) the Ministry of Health (MINSA per its acronym in Spanish)  indicates 214 of those are operational. The detailed reports are available from: INDECI-La LibertadINDECI-Lambayeque, and INDECI-Piura
