Ecuador (Update)

On 1 October 2024, the Ecuador Risk Management Secretariat (SNGR per its acronym in Spanish) published updated information on wildfires across the country. Between January and 1 October 2024, there were 3,557 wildfires (55 increase since the 24 September report) among 22 provinces. There were 828 people affected and 241 people directly impacted. Additionally, 27 homes were affected, and 11 homes were destroyed. Media is reporting an increase in the respiratory diseases due to the wildfires and that the most affected cities are Quito, Loja, Guayaquil, and Latacunga. Tropical Cyclone Helene

United States of America (Update)

On 1 October 2024, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provided an update on the impact of Post-Tropical Cyclone Helene in the United States. In North Carolina, 33 deaths were reported, 25 shelters were opened housing 1,163 people, and two hospitals are working on generator power. In Georgia, 25 deaths were reported, and 520 people are reported in shelters. In Florida, one death is reported, 31 health care facilities were evacuated, and 16 shelters were opened, housing 509 people. In South Carolina, there were 28 deaths reported and 10 shelters were opened housing 142 people. In Tennessee, eight shelters were opened housing 63 people. As of 1 October, media is reporting that there are 143 deaths reported between six states: 56 in North Carolina, 36 in South Carolina, 25 in Georgia, 15 in Florida, nine in Tennessee, and two in Virginia.
