Hurricane Beryl

On 1 July 2024, the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) informed that hurricane warnings are in effect for Barbados, Saint Lucia, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Tobago. On 29 June 2024, the CDEMA activated its Regional Coordination Plan for the Hurricane Beryl. In Trinidad and Tobago, the Ministry of Health (MoH), activated a preparedness plan to ensure minimal disruption of services across the health sector. Media is reporting that emergency shelters were activated in the country. Media also informed that 80 people sought refuge at community centers. Additionally, according to media, the heavy rainfall has impacted several of the Water and Sewerage Authority’s (WASA) facilities in Tobago and North Trinidad. In Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and the Environment suspended a few health services due to the hurricane: clinics at the health district level and outpatients, elective surgeries, X-rays, pharmacy, laboratory at hospitals were cancelled. Media is reporting that 1,032 are in shelters across de country. In Saint Lucia, the St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC), reported a few areas without electricity.
