Brazil (Update)  

On 16 January, the Brazil Government of Bahia state provided an update on the effect of continuous rains on the region since the end of November 2021. To date, 965,643 people were affected by the heavy rains, 62,156 of which were displaced from their houses, 27 died, and 523 people were injured. There are 199 affected municipalities, 190 of which are under a state of emergency. According to a media report, in the state of Minas Gerais, heavy rains caused 6,000 people to lose their houses due to damage or destruction, 46,000 were pre-emptively evacuated due to risk of floods and landslides, and 20 people died. Guatemala (Updated)  

On 17 January, the Guatemala National Coordination System for Disaster Reduction (CONRED as per its acronym in Spanish), reported that due to the cold weather 2,875 people were housed in 11 shelters in the departments of Izabal, Quiché, Sololá, Totonicapán, Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, and Alta Verapaz. Due to a high pressure system currently affecting the northern and central regions of the country with high wind speeds between 20 to 30 kmph, between 16 and 17 January, 92 people were sheltered in: 20 in Izabal, 13 in Quiché, 3 in Totonicapán, 2 in Quetzaltenango, 41 in Guatemala, and 13 in Alta Verapaz.
