Hurricane Eta

On 2 November 2020, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NOAA), reported that Hurricane Eta became a major hurricane, located about 85 miles east of Cabo Gracias A Dios on the Nicaragua and Honduras border. Rainfall would lead to catastrophic, life-threatening flash flooding and river flooding, along with landslides in areas of higher terrain of Central America. Media reported, in Nicaragua, 1,650 persons were evacuated yesterday from Cayos Miskitos off the coast of Nicaragua and Honduras. Currently, in Nicaragua there are 1,152 shelters are open for affected families. Additionally, flash flooding and river flooding is expected across Jamaica, southeast Mexico, El Salvador, southern Haiti, and the Cayman Islands. The Panama National System of Civil Protection National Emergency Operations Center (SINAPROC) released an alert for the Caribbean and Pacific coast of the country due to heavy winds and an increase of swells. El Salvador (Update)

On 31 October 2020, media reported an update on the landslides that occurred on 30 October, to date a total of 110 families were affected and 9 deaths were reported (2 more deaths than the last report on Friday). In addition, 75 homes were affected and 60 homes were buried due to landslides. The report indicated 35 persons were reported as missing.
