Hurricane Iota Update

On 18 November, the Guatemala Permanent Commission of Contingencies (COPECO) reported that due to Hurricane Iota, 131,298 people have been affected, 6,469 have been evacuated, 4,027 have been sheltered, 2 are missing, and 2 have died. In addition, 1,329 houses are reported to have been damaged, 12 roads and 12 bridges have been affected with 2 roads and 5 bridges sustaining damages. Most of the damaged infrastructure is reported to be between the departments of Alta Verapaz, Baja Verapaz, Izabel, Chiquimula, Quiché, and Zacapa. In Honduras, media reported 362,000 people have been affected by Hurricane Iota; 10,987 residents were evacuated and 15,300 have been sheltered. More than 7,000 homes, 3 bridges and 43 roads have been affected. In Colombia, media reported that more than 1,500 families were affected by Hurricane Iota in Santo Tomás municipality and 50 families have been sheltered. In Malambo municipality, it was reported that 854 families were affected with at least 3 homes sustaining damages. Government assistance has been dispatched to all affected areas. In Nicaragua, media reported that 16 people died due to Hurricane Iota and much of the region has no source of electricity or clean water.
