On 17 November 2020, the Guatemala National Coordinator of Disasters (CONRED) reported that upon entering Nicaragua, Hurricane Iota weakened to a category 2 hurricane and the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has since reported that Iota has weakened further to a category 1 hurricane.

In Colombia, media reported the passage of Hurricane Iota damaged 98% of the infrastructure on the island of Providencia that has approximately 5,000 residents. In Cartagena, about 31,000 families representing 155,000 people were affected by flooding in areas of the city. Approximately 40 neighborhoods are affected and 500 people were evacuated to two shelters. In Antioquia, landslides have caused the deaths of five people, and at least 16 people remain missing. In Chocó department, 10 municipalities have been affected by heavy rains and flooding. In Santander department, 29 municipalities have been affected and 1,000 families have been cut off between Carcasí and Enciso due to the destruction of a bridge. 200 houses were affected by flooding in Candelaria, 150 in Carreto and 693 in Malambo.

In Honduras, media reported that more than 9,000 people in high risk areas have been evacuated in anticipation of Hurricane Iota. Currently more than 5,000 people are residing in shelters. In Nicaragua, media reported around 40,000 people were evacuated and housed in shelters where shortages of food and water are reported. None of the shelters are equipped to be compliant with COVID-19 measures which poses a serious risk to public health.

In Panama, media reported more than 400 families were affected by floods in the communities of Sambù and Puerto Indio in Darién where Hurricane Iota caused heavy rains since 14 November. Landslide  
Mexico (Chiapas State) 

On 17 November 2020, media reported 5 houses collapsed and 26 more were left uninhabitable due to a landslide caused by heavy rains in the Tacuba Nueva ejido, municipality of Chilón. All affected families have been sheltered in the surrounding area and residents have been asked by the Civil Protection authorities to take all precautionary measures since the area is at high risk of landslides.
