United States of America

On 4 May, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reported severe weather moving through the Southeast and Southern Plains regions into the Great Lakes that resulted in several tornado watches being issued in Georgia, Mississippi, and Texas. Around 20 tornadoes touched down across Texas, Illinois, Georgia, South Carolina, and Virginia. Media reported that at least three fatalities have been caused due to the severity of the weather. A tornado watch in Atlanta forced thousands of people to seek shelter on 3 May, and more than 100,000 people are without power in states from Texas to Kentucky. The reports are available at FEMA and Informador.Mx.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (Update)
On 3 May, the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) advised the public to remain alert to the possible impacts resulting from rain-soaked-ash. Residents in the Yellow, Orange, and Red Zones were advised to avoid areas within the vicinity of rivers due to destructive laharas caused by the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano. The report is available at: NEMO

Severe Weather

Ecuador

On 3 May, media reported that due to heavy rains in the Imbabura municipality, six houses were flooded in the city of Ibarra, Ecuador. Flooding is common in this region due to heavy rains routinely causing clogs in streams which affect the course of the water. Retaining walls were built in different parts of the area after the cantonal Emergency Operations Committee (COE, per its acronym in Spanish) declared Ibarra an emergency in March due to damage sustained during the winter season. The winter season has also affected other towns in Imbabura; the city of Prefecture sustained several landslides which affected the secondary roads of the province. The report is available at: El Comercio.
