On 24 March 2021, the National Coordinator for the Reduction of Disasters (CONRED), reported that the Pacaya volcano in Guatemala Department, has been erupting and forming columns of gas and ash falls reaching up to 4,500 meters above sea level. The government has recommended that the general population have their Family Response Plan ready, including preparation of the 72-hour backpack for each family member and emergency kit for pets. In addition, media reported that in Guatemala City ash falls affected several towns north of the volcanic cone including the capital.
