On 17 August 2020, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NOAA) reported that hurricane Genevieve continues to rapidly strengthen, it is located about 240 miles south of Manzanillo City, Colima State, Mexico. Tropical storm watch is in effect for: Southern Baja California State (from the towns of Los Barriles to Todos Santos), Mexico. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 85 mph (140 km/h), Genevieve is expected to become a major hurricane on Tuesday. The report is available in English at: NOAA

On 16 August 2020, the Civil Defense of the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil, reported storms and tornadoes occurred on Friday, 14 August, where 5,000 homes and 31 cities were affected. Currently, 4 municipalities have open shelters for those affected; 848 persons lost their homes and 650 were displaced. A death was reported and 16 people were injured due to the storm.
