Severe Weather and Volcano
St. Vincent and the Grenadines (update)
On 29 April 2021, National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines issued a warning advising the public of flooding and landslides in several areas as a result of heavy rainfall. The red zone of the mountain in particular has been impacted by mudflows because of the density of ash deposits in those areas. Media reported that 7.5-12.5 cm of rain fell, and the forecast predicts an additional 5 cm of rain in the next 24 hours. There were some reports of damage to various bridges, roofs collapsing, and some buildings being destroyed due to flooding in rural areas. A volcano seismologist at the University of the West Indies Center for Seismic Research reported that there are lahars in all the major drainage basins which may cause more damage as they move from the volcano to the sea. The reports are available at: NEMO y Diario Libre.
