The development of guidelines ensuring the appropriate use of evidence represents one of the core functions of WHO/PAHO. Recommendations that can impact upon health policies or clinical interventions are considered guidelines for WHO/PAHO purposes.
Many countries have formally established national guideline programs for producing evidence informed recommendations. The program promotes the institutionalization of evidence-informed mechanisms making higher-quality healthcare more accessible, equitable, and affordable, while ensuring that the evidence is adequately translated and used within Member States.
