Established in 1962, the ACHR guides the PAHO Director in health research policy and programs, and contributes significantly towards the formulation of research for health policies and strategies within PAHO and towards strategic planning for technical cooperation in research for health.
The ACHR is part of the system of advisory committees of the World Health Organization (WHO) and its Secretariat lies within the PAHO Health Systems and Services (HSS).
The committee is currently composed of eleven renowned experts from different backgrounds and disciplines who have an in-depth knowledge of the status of health research in the Americas and of the challenges it faces. Members of the ACHR frequently participate in virtual debates and attend yearly meetings called by the PAHO Director. Current members are denoted with an asterisk.
