Science and Knowledge for Impact

The unit on Science and Knowledge for Impact (SK) of the Pan American Health Organization works to harness the power of science, innovation and evidence to attain universal health and achieve health for all. This is accomplished by building capacities in the region and supporting PAHO and Member States in strengthening ethics, evidence support, research and development systems, knowledge management and translation, and the communication of science.

Among its initiatives are: Promote the institutionalization of mechanisms informed by evidence and research to improve decision-making in health; Promote  research governance and standards; Support setting and implementing research agendas to address gaps, emerging areas, and regional and national priorities and the optimization of research and development; Strengthen the systematic integration of ethics in public health work and research to improve impact, integrity, and confidence in science; Establish the principles, and practices of knowledge management and multilingual scientific publication as fundamental to public health and technical cooperation.
