International Health Days Events

International public health days offer great potential to raise awareness and understanding about health issues and mobilize support for action, from the local community to the international stage. There are many world days observed throughout the year related to specific health issues or conditions – from Alzheimer's to zoonoses; however, PAHO/WHO focuses particular attention on the days and weeks that PAHO/WHO Member States have mandated as "official" public health days for the region.

Every February 15, the global childhood cancer community celebrates International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD), in a collaborative campaign to raise awareness about childhood cancer and to express support for children and adolescents with cancer, the survivors and their families.

The global cancer community commemorates World Cancer Day, on February 4, with the slogan ''I Am and I Wil". PAHO joins this campaign to call everyone, collectively and individually, to commit to strengthen actions aimed to reduce the impact of cancer.

Every December 1st, we celebrate World AIDS Day. This day is an opportunity to support those involved in the fight against HIV and to improve understanding of HIV as a global public health problem.

World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) aims to increase awareness of global antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and encourage best practices amongst the general public, health workers, and policy makers to avoid further emergence and spread of drug-resistant infections.

On October 10th is World Mental Health Day. This year´s campaign focus on increasing investment on mental health. The theme is Move for mental health: Let´s invest!

The COVID-19 pandemic has unveiled the huge challenges and risks health workers are facing globally including health care associated infections, violence, stigma, psychological and emotional disturbances, illness and even death. Furthermore, working in stressful environments makes health workers more prone to errors which can lead to patient harm.

The Pan American Health Organization and the Ministry of Health of Trinidad and Tobago cordially invite you to a webinar organized as part of the activities for World Breastfeeding Week. The webinar will take place on Tuesday, 4 August, 2020, from 10.00 to 12.00 pm (AST or Port of Spain time).
