Risk Assessment for public health related to Dengue in the Americas Region - 12 December 2023

The distribution of dengue risk is uneven across regions, countries, and within countries

The increase in epidemic outbreaks across the region, including dengue, occurs in the midst of complex and protracted humanitarian crises, such as mass migration and the spread of armed violence. The latter leads to disruption or difficulty in providing health care services. Meanwhile, high population movement and prolonged, simultaneous outbreaks overwhelm health systems and deplete regional and local resources. This situation jeopardizes epidemic response and infection control, even in endemic areas, and carries the risk of further spread to other countries.
