Since the beginning of 2023, the humanitarian crisis in Haiti has escalated significantly, with the situation further deteriorating in 2024 due to intensified gang violence and the near collapse of state institutions. On 27 September 2024, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) warned that at least 3,661 people were killed since January 2024 in Haiti, pointing to the lack of equipment and personnel in the multinational police mission.

Despite the many challenges, PAHO and its partners continue to support the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) to face the ongoing crisis affecting the health sector.
