Although COVID-19 has been shown to cause severe disease and death less frequently in young people than older people, it can still have significant direct and indirect consequences in this age group.
Drawing on recommendations from WHO, PAHO and other UN partners, this publication summarizes available data on cases and outcomes in young people and presents relevant guidance on mitigating the short and longer-term consequences, both of the disease itself and the knock-on effects on education and social development.
