Fact Sheet: EMTCT PLUS Initiative 2011-2021. Core intervention for the prevention of MTCT of HIV

After years of continuous increase of HIV testing among pregnant women since 2010, peaking in 2014 at 75%, the estimated proportion of women tested for HIV at least once during pregnancy remained stable in Latin America and the Caribbean until 2019 when countries the region reached a historic high of 80% (Latin America 80% and Caribbean 82%). In 2020 and 2021 it is possible to observe sequential drops in the estimated HIV testing coverage reaching 68% in Latin America and the Caribbean.
