Epidemiological Alert Measles in the Americas Region - 9 December 2024

The Americas Region has again been re-verified as a measles-free region while sustaining the elimination of rubella and congenital rubella syndrome (CRS). Given the recent identification of measles clusters and cases in countries and territories in the Americas Region that may put this progress at risk, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) urges Member States to continue strengthening vaccination, epidemiological surveillance, and rapid response activities. In addition, it recommends the implementation of active community, institutional and laboratory searches for the timely identification of cases, as well as complementary vaccination activities to close possible immunity gaps.
