IHSLAC Profiles - Country in Focus: Haiti

In Haiti, the initiative is being implemented in three regions in the south of the country: Soud, Grand Anse and Nippes. It will support the implementation of an action plan to reduce maternal and infant death in Cayes, the development, implementation, and dissemination of obstetric and emergency protocols, the training of community health technicians and nurses on key issues related to attention to mothers and children, as well as the management of cases of severe malnutrition.

Haiti prenatal care

In order to support the Haitian Ministry of Health (MoH) in reducing maternal and neonatal deaths, PAHO/WHO assists the Health Departmental of Nippes (DSNi) in improving the quality of health care through capacity building and training for the health workers.  Health workers including nurses, midwives and doctors, all from healthcare institutions of the Nippes, participate in Management of Labor and Delivery (GESTA) trainings dedicated to reducing maternal and neonatal death.
