After the success of the first campaign of World Food Safety Day 2019, we invite the different actors responsible for ensuring food safety to celebrate this second campaign "Food Safety, everyone's business", which will be celebrated on 7 June 2020.
Currently in the world, it is estimated that one in ten people becomes ill after consuming contaminated food, and 420,000 people die each year, being children under 5 years the most affected, with 125,000 every year.
In a world where the food supply chain has become more complex, any adverse food safety incident can have global negative effects, impacting public health, trade and the economy. We all have a role to play, from farm- to-fork, to make sure that the food we eat is safe and does not harm our health. Safe food is critical to promote health and end hunger, two of the 17 goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This international day is an opportunity to strengthen efforts to reduce the risk of foodborne illness and ensure that the food we eat is safe.
