Every November 6, PAHO celebrates Malaria Day in the Americas in the Region, where it calls on endemic countries, local leaders and partners in the fight against malaria to join efforts in a strategy aimed at expanding access to diagnosis and treatment as a main pillar of elimination in the region and to accelerate the elimination of P. falciparum malaria.
The theme for Malaria Day in the Americas 2024, Expanding access to diagnostics and treatment for all, calls for action to make malaria treatment readily accessible to communities as a public good—free from geographic, financial, and other barriers. Engaging communities and all relevant stakeholders in a coordinated, ministry-led national alliance is essential. This effort should begin with ensuring that diagnosis and treatment services are available in all health facilities across endemic areas.
