Theme 2024: From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development
International Youth Day 2024 (IYD) is themed “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development.” It emphasizes the role of digital technology in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). According to the United Nations IYD summary document, the rapid digital transformation taking place globally was recognized by the United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG) as one of the six transitions that have catalytic and multiplier effects across the SDGs. In the 2021 report “Our Common Agenda,” the UN Secretary-General emphasized the need to support individuals to navigate technological transitions, alongside demographic and climate changes.
UN states that youth, as digital generations and visionaries, are at the forefront of adopting new technologies, and form the largest demographic of users and developers that shape digital trends globally, which makes them the driving force behind digitalization and innovation, and an essential demographic group in leveraging the transformative power of technologies to address global challenges.
For the commemoration of IYD 2024, PAHO carried out a webinar around the international theme with a focus on leveraging the transformative power of digital technology to achieve SDG 3 targets for and with young people in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Considering the important place and meaning of digital technology in young people's lives, the development of sustainable and evidence-informed digital solutions and innovative initiatives to advance their health is also a priority for PAHO.
We invite you to learn more about the Youth for Health Group (PYHG) which was established in 2018 to institutionalize young people's engagement and empowerment in PAHO’s work and mainstream meaningful and sustainable dialogue and partnership between PAHO and young people in the Americas on their health and well-being.
