International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies

In 2019, the United Nations General Assembly designated September 7 as the International Clean Air Day for a Blue Sky. The first International Day was held on 2020.

The day aims to prioritize the need for healthy air and the links of air pollution to other critical issues such as climate change, human and planetary health, and the Sustainable Development Goals. It serves as a call to action to collectively align efforts and reclaim the right to clean air.

Clean Air

International Day of Clean Air for blue skies enters its second year in 2021 and the need for clean air remains as important as ever.

This International Day of Clean Air for blue skies aims to build a global community of action that encourages countries to work together to tackle air pollution to ensure clean air for all. To this end, it gives people a platform that can enable cooperation to mitigate air pollution at the individual, national, regional, as well as international levels.

THEME: #HealthyAirHealthyPlanet

This year’s theme of “Healthy Air, Healthy Planet” emphasizes the health effects of air pollution, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We all breathe the same air and one atmosphere protects and sustains us all, pollution is a global problem and we must act together to combat it.

It follows on from 2020’s theme of “Clean Air for All”.
