A Different Kind of Heat

Welcome to "A Different Kind of Heat," a public awareness campaign designed to highlight the main health risks of heat exposure and the preventive measures to avoid adverse health outcomes. With temperatures soaring to new highs, the familiar comfort of the sun has taken a dramatic turn, posing significant health risks that cannot be ignored. Through this campaign, we aim to educate the public about heat-related illnesses across our region, to inspire healthful behaviours.

Campaign Objectives

Education: Learn about the dangers of extreme heat, including the physical signs of dehydration and the risks associated with prolonged exposure to high temperatures.

Activate Preventive Measures: Empower yourself and your community to adopt heat health precautionary behaviours. Simple steps can significantly reduce the risk of heat stroke, dehydration, and other heat-induced health issues.

Reduce Heat-Related Illnesses: Through collective action and informed choices, we aim to decrease the number of heat-related illnesses in our region, making our communities safer for everyone.

Understanding the Heat

This isn’t the sun as we’ve known it. Across our region, the refrain “This heat is serious! This sun is not playing!” resonates more each day. By giving the sun a persona in our campaign, we aim to highlight the seriousness of increased temperatures in a way that resonates universally without trivialising the gravity of the issue.

How to Stay Safe

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Hydration is key to keeping heat-related illnesses at bay.

Seek Shade and Avoid Peak Hours: The sun is most intense between 10 AM and 4 PM. Plan your outdoor activities outside these hours and find shade whenever possible.

Wear Protective Clothing: Choose lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that covers as much skin as possible. Hats and sunglasses are also essential.

Join us in combating "A Different Kind of Heat." Together, we can stay informed, stay safe. Let’s not underestimate the sun’s new intensity; instead, let’s respect it, prepare for it, and protect ourselves and our loved ones from its potential harm.
